A bend in the Road

The last year has involved a lot of change for me, and that isn’t about to change any time soon. I’ve decided to go back to school for a month to take an intensive course in teaching English as a second language.

I’ve been working as an insurance rep since last September. I’ve learned a lot, seen some beautiful country and met some wonderful people, but I spent eleven years as a teacher and that’s who I am at heart. Perhaps I can channel that into working with my clients, but I’m going to take a step back and a long look ahead and try to decide what I need to do for the rest of my working life.

I’ll never forget some of the clients I’ve met over the past nine months, like the 98-year-old woman who remembered the Halifax Explosion. Or the places I’ve visited, like the LaHave Islands and the Musquodoboit Valley. Nova Scotia has some of the most beautiful places – with the strangest names! – in the world.

I’m looking forward to being a student again. It’s been a long time. It’s going to be very demanding, but I think I need that right now. As Anne of Green Gables said so well, there’s a fascination to a bend in the road – you never know what lies around it.

Of course I’m going to keep writing, though my time frame for finishing Heart is completely uncertain now. All I can say is, it WILL get done, and I deeply appreciate every person who takes a few minutes out of their busy day to drop by this site. I write for you, and I will continue to do just that.
