As I’ve mentioned before on this blog, in the final year of my undergrad degree I took a course in the social history of clothing. It was fascinating. For me, the highlight was a visit to a clothing museum, where I got to try on a 150-year-old Victorian gown. That was the day I discovered that my figure belongs in another era.
I’m sure that ordinary people with stuff to do wore simpler clothes, but when it came to dressing up, the Victorians went all out. I thought you might enjoy this video demonstrating how it was done, layer by layer.
