Today’s Entry in the Great War Glossary: B is for BLOTTO – Blotto meant stinking drunk. Living in conditions like those surrounding the young man in this image, it’s no wonder alcohol was a welcome escape. And when the fighting ended and the men came home, is it any wonder that Prohibition became a joke? For those with physical damage, alcohol was the cheapest and most available painkiller. Likewise for those with PTSD. Abstinence just wasn’t going to happen.
